about us

Tai Nuare (n.):

A happy and care free life.

What kind of adventure are you looking for?

If you’re imagining an overwater resort like Sandals, where there are dozens of bungalows packed together, hundreds of tourists, concrete pathways & buildings, a spa, and a variety of cookie-cutter experiences that you choose out of a brochure, then this probably isn’t for you.

At Tai Nuare, you’re a castaway, there’s no other tourists around, no spa, and certainly no bedside brochure to sell you packaged deals. Yes, it’s luxury, yes, it’s an overwater paradise, but it’s certainly not your typical resort. It’s isolated peace when you want it, freedom and adventure when it calls for you, and rich cultural experiences with the local indigenous tribespeople who want to befriend you.

Being a Tai Nuare castaway affords a chance to be spontaneous and have unique experiences. It’s not about following a canned experience alongside dozens of others following the same commercialized plan. It’s about showing up and asking your local guide what he recommends and then letting the moment decide. Your shaman guide will take you out on the boat when the sea is calling you, dive off the edge of your bungalow when the sun has thoroughly bathed you, explore the island when the birds are calling you, and go into your back yard to pluck a coconut when your thirst tells you.

The island your staying on isn’t developed. There is no spa, no paved trails, and no animals who have been artificially brought here. The animals who live here have lived here because this was their home before the bungalow was built, and it will remain their home after. We haven’t changed the landscape by adding paved trails, rather natural walking trails surround the private inland freshwater lake allowing you to experience Panama’s tropical rainforest as it naturally is.

Instead of leafing through a bedside brochure to decide how to spend your day, simply ask the Shaman of the local tribe what he recommends. During your stay he will be your bilingual guide (English and Spanish), your boat captain, and your friend on the island. Whatever it is you decide to do: beach bum, surf, dolphin watch, or snorkel, he knows all the spots, and when you decide it’s time to go, he’ll take you there in your own private boat.

And most importantly, a visit to Tai Nuare’s eco-lodge supports the local community and environment. The bungalow that we’ve built was constructed to create a minimum impact on the environment and a maximum impact on the surrounding community. The water that runs through our sinks and showers was caught by the rain, and the trees that built this bungalow were cut and constructed locally, provided jobs to the local indigenous community.

Our vision for Tai Nuare is to eventually build a dozen or more overwater bungalows across our 58 acres of land, providing economic opportunity to the Ngabe community for generations to come. Now is your chance. Book your trip now, before the rest of the world realizes what they’re missing out on.
